Week 1 Two Cultures
My name is Jared Karros and I am a third year sociology major. Like many other college students, social media is something I spend a lot of time on. Therefore, I wanted to analyze its relevance as a culture of its own. I am taking this class because I hope to learn more about design and media arts.
There are many different forms of culture across the world. One of which that has become extremely prominent in almost everyone's lives is the culture of social media. There is a very significant connection between social media as well as design media because social media often has graphic designs and other forms of media. We are able to see this in Snow's claim about the two cultures of art and science and how they both appear in social and design media. Design media art serves more as a scientific type culture because of the research that goes into how different designs are used and which work best. Social media on the other hand would serve as a more artistic one because there isn't much research or study. It revolves more around being appealing and getting popular.
