Proof of Attendance

As we continue to learn about new fields and relationships amongst them, the connection that art has with everything is very apparent. The ability to depict and tell stories through art, design, and animation is limitless. Moist recently, I was able to experience this through Jessica Irish's short film This Mortal Plastik. Throughout this film, Irish describes the negative impacts that plastic has had on our natural world and shows this through her animations and designs. Also, she explores different quotes from different figures throughout history that discuss the revolutionary infiltration of plastic into our society. When she provided a graph showing the amount of plastic being produced, I was amazed at the exponential growth experienced in only the last 15 years compared the the many decades before. Additionally, another very interesting fact was that she explained how the first productions of plastic were on the same day that Nazi's invaded in Germany in 1939. A very ominous parallel if you ask me.

Overall, my experience at this event was a very positive one. While I did really enjoy viewing her animation and short film, it was pretty frightening to realize how much of an impact plastic is having on our environment. Watching something like this is important to spark change. I know for me personally after viewing this, I will be much more diligent when it comes to recycling and being conscious about my plastic waste. I believe this type of presentation is essential for everyone to watch because we have such a big problem with plastic waste that constantly seems to get swept under the rug.
